About Børsgade

Make the world richer

Investing in publicly listed companies is simple, but not easy. Simple because it only takes 10 minutes to set up a share account and buy a share. Not so easy because it takes insight to assess when a company is a good buy and self-awareness to not be swayed by the ups and downs of the market.

I started børsgade.dk with the purpose of making the world richer through intelligent and fundamental stock investing.

But first, a confession: I love the stock market. At this point, it’s probably accurate to characterize it as a degree of dependency. From my perspective, the stock market is one of the most important inventions in history. Maybe right after the wheel, penicillin and coffee.

The stock market gives us all the opportunity to become co-owners of some of the most successful and interesting companies in the world. In addition, it provides companies with the capital to develop their business to create more wealth and development. Not bad, right?

The long-term perspective

Although the stock market rises and falls from day to day and even month to month, the long-term trend has always been upwards. If you look at the development since the end of World War II, the stock market has risen more than 20,000% (yes, twenty thousand percent). This is actually quite acceptable, considering that you can simply put money aside every month, invest in a number of exciting companies and get paid to wait in peace.

Over the past 20 years, the returns actually look quite reasonable. Even after the Corona pandemic in 2020 and a bear market in 2022, returns have been around 12% per year. That is, if you follow the simple path of placing your entire savings in a global index fund such as Vanguard’s Total Stock Market EFT (ticker: VTI).

Hint: The green trend line below explains it best.

About me

  • I bought my first share at the age 14, in person, at the local bank branch. That was the only way I could make trades back then. Which in practice meant I had to bring my dad along every time.
  • My educational background is a Bachelor of Law from the University of Copenhagen and a Master of Science from the IT University of Copenhagen (weird combo, I know). Lately, I joined New York University’s MBA track, including Aswath Damodaran’s Advance Valuation class.
  • I started my professional career in PwC’s forensics department uncovering financial crime in close cooperation with the Danish Police. Subsequently, several years at Nets (now Nexi) as the head of Nets’ operational risk management department and was part of the listing of Nets on the Copenhagen stock exchange.
  • Wanting to see the insides of a large financial institution, I joined one of Europe’s biggest pension funds, ATP, as a Security Officer, where I helped manage the technical risks in the various investment departments.
  • In 2022, my wife and I had managed to save and invest enough that I could quit my job and follow my dream of becoming a full-time investor. Shortly thereafter, I agreed to take on the responsibility as a Portfolio Manager of a small Danish Family Office. A position I still hold today.
  • On a more personal note, I live in a very old (and somewhat crooked) listed townhouse in the historic city of Elsinore, Denmark with my wife and our two daughters.
