Aswath Damodaran: Valuation of the magnificent seven

In 2023, seven companies (Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia and Tesla) increased their combined market capitalization by $5.1 billion. USD, which represents just under 60% of the increase in market capitalization of all 6658 US stocks. At the end of 2023, these seven companies had a market capitalization of $12.2 billion. USD, greater than the market capitalization of all listed shares in China, the second largest stock market in the world.

In this video, Professor Damodaran looks at three reasons for the success of ‘The Magnificent Seven’. He ends the video by valuing all seven companies that he all owns (bought at different times), concluding that while five are close to fair value, two are overvalued (spoiler: here he’s talking about Nvidia and Microsoft).
