Mohnish Pabrai: Investing in Chinese BYD, Moutai and Tencent

In an interview with the Chinese media ‘Weekly on Stocks’, Mohnish talks about his considerations with investing in China. Here they touch on three of Pabrai’s positions in recent years, EV car manufacturer BYD, brewery Moutai and tech company Tencent.

One of the recurring issues in the interview is when a position should be sold. Once you have found a good company, Pabrai’s experience is that you should almost always just hold the position.

One of the biggest mistakes I have made many, many times in my investing career is I have repeatedly sold very good businesses because they appeared to be overvalued.

And what I have learned after taking a lot of arrows in my back and making a lot of mistakes is when you find yourself in the happy position of owning a fraction of a great business, pretty much never sell it.

Unless it is just extreme egregious crazy price.
